Belonging and Connection

The gifts of BELONGING and CONNECTION are not only values, but deep NEEDS to be met. Unmet needs will eventually come to a crisis point. We see this continually occurring on a larger scale. To move toward greater connection, we begin by honoring each other with authentic curiosity, honest inquiry and respect for all life. One of my contemporary teachers, Brené Brown, defines CONNECTION as “the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued; when they can give and receive without judgment; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship.”

I’m continually called to UP level my own thoughts and release judgments as my primary aim is always connection. The words of a fourteenth century wisdom teacher, Muhammad Hafiz, a poet and devotee to the richness of connection also inspires this remembrance; “Your heart and my heart are very, very old friends.” His literary mastery delights my soul as another reminder of how deeply we belong to each other. As we journey across this bridge of exponential growth may we seed the gifts of CONNECTION and BELONGING at every opportunity.

in peace, love and unity,
Rev. Doug
